Alice Ann Laube Porter, age 80, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Barker Laube and Marion A. Young Laube passed away at 8:58 p.m., January 8, 2018 at Mercyhealth Hospital following a short illness. She was born on August 4, 1937 and attended Durand Schools in Durand, Illinois; graduating class of 1955. Alice married Rodney Washington Porter on April 27, 1963 in Harrison, Illinois. \r\n\r\nShe is survived by her brother Charles Laube of Durand, IL; a sister Kathryn A. Scheiner of Lexington, KY; her children John Porter and Paula (Mark) Dooley and seven grandchildren Megan, Michelle, John Jr., twins Madelyn and Kaitlyn, Abigale and Summer. \r\n\r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Marion Laube and her husband Rodney Washington Porter who passed away on August 29, 2002. \r\n\r\nAlice was a member of the Church by the Side of the Road in Rockton, IL where she enjoyed attending her Bible Study with friends. \r\n\r\nAlice worked at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. before her marriage to Rodney. She also worked at Valspar and Barber Coleman in Rockford, IL as well as the Rockton Grade School while her children were growing up. Alice was gifted at doing many different kinds of crafts and was also a seamstress. She loved all things nature and spending time in the woods. \r\n\r\nMemorial Ceremonies will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, January 14, 2018 at McCorkle Funeral Home – Rockton Chapel, 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd, Rockton, IL with the Pastor Charles Waggoner of Church by the Side of the Road officiating. Final resting place will be Garden Prairie Cemetery in Poplar Grove, IL. Cremation Rites have been Accorded. A visitation will be held in the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until time of ceremonies Sunday.\r\n\r\nIn lieu of flowers a memorial had been established to the Church by the Side of the Road.
