Allen Shirley

Allen B. Shirley, 84 of Rockton, IL died at 5:05 am Sunday December 17, 2023 Fair Oaks Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy illness. He was born October 9, 1939 in Buckeye Hollar, Kentucky the son of Robert H. Shirley and Orleana F. (nee Sneed) Franklin. He graduated from Argo Community High School in Summit, IL class of 1958.

Allen married Nancy J. Snyder on November 24, 1981 in Rockford, IL. Allen was employed as a mechanic by National Can for 30 years and worked for Gleason Cutting Tool retiring in 2014. Allen, in his younger years was an avid bowler in many leagues. Member of Forest City Church in Rockford, IL and also attended Central Christian Church in Beloit, WI. Former member of the Rockton Boat Club.

Survivors include his wife Nancy; sons Robbie Shirley, Ricky (Tania) Shirley; daughter Jamie (Mark) Sander; son Greg (Teri Johnson) Stahl; daughter Rachael (Steve Kivikko) Stahl; son Joe Stahl; grandchildren Crystal Shirley, Rob Shirley, Heather (Andrew) Walworth, Holly Shirley, Alaina Neal, Alyssa (Gerry) Maloney, Leigha Sander, Wesley Shirley, Allen Shirley, TJ Pitcock, AJ Shirley, Anabelle Stahl, Abigail Stahl; great grandchildren Kaelynn, Aubrey, Hazel, Nora, Harper, Janie, Willow, Amber, McKenna; brothers Jimmy McIntosh, Elbert Shirley; sisters Carol Tucker, Sheila Parson; Brothers Joe Shirley, Mike Shirley, Benny Shirley, Raymond Shirley; sister Willya Nelson, Loralee McCorkle; brother Richie Shirley; numerous nieces, nephews; mother of his children Jessie Hilton and his loving dog and constant companion Amos. Predeceased by his parents, son Duane Shirley, brother James Shirley and sister Margaret Reitz.

A Funeral Ceremony will be held on December 29, 2023 at 11:00 am in McCorkle Funeral Home 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd Rockton, IL with Chaplain Carol Harrington officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Garden in Freeport, IL. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:30 am until time of ceremony.
