Barbara E. Andreoli Glasscoe

–

South Beloit, Illinois

Barbara Ellen Andreoli Glasscoe, age 65, peacefully passed away at Mercy
Javon Bea Riverside Hospital (Rockford, IL) on Sunday May 12, 2024 after
a short illness .

Barbara was born November 19, 1958 at Rockford (IL) Memorial Hospital to
Robert B. Andreoli and Doris Ann (McCarthy) Andreoli and lived in
Rockton, IL through High School.

She graduated from Rockton Grade School in 1972. Barbara graduated from
Hononegah High School (Rockton, IL) in 1976. She followed in her
parents footsteps by graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree
in Elementary Education and Bi-lingual (Spanish) Education with a Minor
in Music from University of Wisconsin–Whitewater.

Like her mother, she was also a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority.
Barbara also spent a very memorable summer studying as a foreign
exchange student in Guadalajara, Mexico. She performed her student
teaching in Kenosha, WI.

Barbara followed her father (Spanish teacher) and her mother (Second
Grade teacher) as a Spanish Bi-lingual Elementary teacher in South Bend,
IN while living in Mishawaka, IN.

Barbara, once again like her mother, began playing the clarinet in
elementary school and continued through high school and college as a
member of both concert and marching bands. Barb was an outstanding
musician, winning many Illinois State High School music awards.

In her high school senior year she was named a member of the McDonald's
All-American High School Band featuring 2 high school seniors from each
state plus 1 from Washington D.C.. The marching band traveled to
Pasadena, CA to perform on New Years Day in the Tournament of Roses
Parade before the Rose Bowl football game.

In the summer of 1981 Barb set off on a journey that would continue for
the rest of her life. Since her marching band days, she always loved the
idea of competitive Drum and Bugle Corps marching bands. Unfortunately,
there were no clarinet players involved. During her first summer
vacation, on break from teaching, she traveled around the country by bus
with the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps as a volunteer cook.

Barbara's decision to travel with the Phantom Regiment proved to be
momentous. She met her soon-to-be husband when she was seated behind him
on the bus they traveled on together for the whole summer.

In 1983 Barbara moved from Mishawaka, IN to Rockton, IL to stay with her
parents while she was waiting for her wedding. On 07/16/1983 she was
married to Mark Douglas Glasscoe.

Barbara also took up teaching again in the Rockford Public School
System. After a few years, teaching in Rockford was becoming difficult
to continue in. Teaching jobs in the area surrounding Rockford were
scarce so she chose to change directions.

Barbara quit teaching and, being an excellent typist, began working a
series of temporary office jobs. As time went on, one of her employers
(Rockford Health Systems Clinicare) offered her a full time position.
She found a whole new love of dealing with computers, databases,
spreadsheets and analyzing data systems and problems.

After about 15 years and several promotions, one of her former bosses
offered her a similar, but better, job at Mercyhealth in Janesville, WI.
After many promotions, Barb was the IS Supervisor at the time of her
passing. She spent a total of about 40 years in the Health Insurance
industry.

Music was always an important part of Barbara's life as she was
introduced to the clarinet as a young child by her mother. As an adult,
Barbara performed as a member of the Rockford Concert Band in their
summer performances at the Sinnissippi Band Shell in Rockford, IL.

Barbara was also a Founding Member of The Rockford Wind Ensemble and
performed in other community bands as well.

In another example of walking in her mother's footsteps, Barbara had a
lifelong love of sewing, quilting and crafting. She was constantly
learning, taking classes and workshops and always trying out new
techniques and styles. One of her favorite pastimes was making creative
purses and bags. She loved traveling to see art museums and was always
on the lookout for a new quilt store.

She loved modern art and design, reading murder mysteries, solving
challenging mental games and puzzles, watching Hallmark movies, Frasier,
Monk, The Andy Griffith Show, The Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family and
figure skating. Barbara was in constant communication with her countless
friends from school, bands, Phantom Regiment and work.

Barbara continued her whole life in her role as a volunteer for the
Phantom Regiment along with her husband Mark, who was a Marching
Instructor, Corps Director and Member of the Board of Directors for many
years. This time, Barbara was a member of the volunteer Sewing Crew who
were responsible for fitting and sewing uniforms for Corps members and
for designing and sewing flags and other props and accessories.

After many years, Barb was the Head of the Sewing Crew. In 2017 Barbara
was honored by being named a member of the Phantom Regiment Hall Of
Fame. This honor meant a great deal to Barbara as the Phantom Regiment
was truly the most prominent and favorite aspect of her life. The
Regiment brought her a husband, a pastime, travel around the nation and
experiences and memories with hundreds of lifelong friends.
