Barry Lee Bishop, 72, of Rockton, IL, passed away October 15, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. in his home surrounded by his loving family. We lost a kind and gentle man, who was a loving husband and adored by many.\r\nBorn February 11, 1945 in Rockford, IL, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leroy and Marie (Smith) Bishop. He graduated from Auburn High School in Rockford, IL, Class of 1963. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1963 and served on the USS Bennington. He served until his Honorable Discharge in 1967. He married Jean Fisher on May 18, 2002. He was employed by IBM, Eastman Kodak and most recently Williams-McCarthy Law Firm. His special hobbies were hunting, boating, cutting fire wood and traveling. He actively donated blood to a level of 8 gallons.\r\nSurvivors include wife Jean Bishop; step-children Tonija (Curt) Clifton, Timothy (Joy) Putnam and Tracy (Randy) Knight; grandchildren Jason Ball, Joseph Ball, Tiphanie Truax and Nicole Knight; The Reece Family- Judy, David, Dennis, Jeannie Reece and Marc Conde; numerous nieces and nephews; many special friends Dave Maynard, John Schafman, Al Holte, Gene Herman, Paul Niederman, Gary Swarthout, Don Friday, John Radostits, and his dog Maggie. He was preceded in death by his first wife Sally (Reece) Bishop, father and mother and long-time friend Jack Putnam. The family would like to thank Dr. David Hansen, Dr. Edwards, the nurses at Swedish Cancer Center and Dr. Kosoff of UW for all of your wonderful care given to Barry.\r\nPer Barry’s wishes an Open House will be held at the Rockton American Legion Walter Graham Post #332, located at 221 W. Main St, Rockton, IL on Sunday, October 22, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., followed by a presentation by the American Legion. Cremation Rites to be Accorded. \r\nA Memorial Fund will be established.
