Bernice M. Domeier, 95 of Winnebago, IL died at 7:20 pm Saturday March 11, 2017 in Rockford Mercy Hospital. Bernice was born on October 19, 1921 in Clinton, IA the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl and Elizabeth “Betty” Olson. She married Charles A. Domeier in Clinton, IA on June 14, 1947. \r\n\r\nBernice is preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and three sisters. She leaves behind several nieces and nephews. \r\n\r\nAfter graduating from Clinton High School, she began her journey as a lifetime educator. Bernice earned her Teacher Training Certification at Mount St. Clare College in Clinton, IA; a Bachelor’s Degree in Supervision and Curriculum at Northern Illinois University. Bernice continued graduate studies at the National College of Education at Western Illinois University. Bernice taught school for 31 years in Whiteside County, IL, Clinton, IA and the Rockford Public Schools. She also served as the President for the Rockford Education Association. \r\n\r\nAfter retirement, Bernice continued in educational leadership roles at the local, state and national levels. Bernice’s true love was horses. Along with her husband Charlie, she maintained a high interest in equestrian affiliations. Even after Charlie’s death, Bernice continued to pull her fifth wheel and horses around the country to ride with friends. Bernice was a faithful member of First Lutheran Church in Pecatonica, IL. \r\n\r\nA graveside ceremony will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, March 16, 2017 in Twelve Mile Grove Cemetery Pecatonica, IL with Reverend Nord Swanstrom officiating.
