Betty Ruth Hamborg Compagnoni, 82, Rockton, Illinois passed away peacefully at 9:10 p.m., Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Beloit Memorial Hospital. \r\r\n\r\r\n Betty was born July 17, 1928 in Roscoe, Illinois, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gustaf and Esther (Borden) Hamborg. She married Ben Compagnoni in Roscoe, Illinois on January 6, 1951. She was a teacher in Wayne, Onarga and Roscoe, Illinois and was a substitute teacher for several years at the Rockton Grade School and ultimately taught fourth grade for 14 years, retiring in 1984. After retiring, she worked at the Talcott Free Library in Rockton. She enjoyed spending winters in Mesa, Arizona, traveling, paper craft work, baking and entertaining many family and friends with Italian dinners. She was a member of the Rockton United Methodist Church, charter member of the Hononegah Woman’s Club, presently Member Emeritus, Rockton Woman’s Club, Roscoe VFW Post #2955 Auxiliary and Rockton Walter Graham American Legion Post #332 Auxiliary. She graduated from Hononegah High School, Class of 1946 and earned her Bachelor of Science at Northern IL University. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Special Care Center at Beloit Memorial Hospital, Beloit Regional Hospice and Highview in the Woodlands for their care and support. \r\r\n\r\r\n Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Ben Compagnoni, Rockton, Illinois; sons Ben Jr. (Brenda), Rockford, Illinois and Barry (Shelia), Kailua, Hawaii; son-in-law Scotty Phillips, Lodi, Wisconsin; granddaughters Shelley (Greg) Kaschinske, Poynette, Wisconsin, Tanysha (Jim) Montana, Rockford, Illinois, Rebecca (Aaron) Tamburello, Madison, Wisconsin, Kate, Madeline, Maggie, Emma and Molly Compagnoni, Kailua, Hawaii; grandson Michael Compagnoni, South Beloit, Illinois; great grandchildren Jake Montana, Remy Tamburello and Amelia Kaschinske; sister-in-law Norma Hamborg, Cardiff-by-the-Sea, California and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Barbara R. Phillips, sister Jean Pearson and brother Milton Hamborg. \r\r\n\r\r\n Funeral Ceremonies will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 22, 2011 in Rockton United Methodist Church, 102 W Chapel, Rockton, Illinois with Reverend Tom Kingery, pastor, officiating. \r\r\n\r\r\n Burial will be in Roscoe Cemetery, Roscoe, Illinois. A visitation will be held at McCorkle Funeral Home, 767 N Blackhawk Blvd., Rockton, Illinois from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, March 21. \r\r\n\r\r\n In lieu of flowers, Betty requested that memorials may be made to Rockton United Methodist Church or Talcott Free Library 101 E Main Street, Rockton, IL 61072.
