Brian L. McAuliffe 1958-2017. Brian L. McAuliffe of Pecatonica, IL passed away in his home on February 3, 2017 after a fierce and short battle with cancer.\r\n \r\nBorn in Freeport, IL on August 5, 1958 to Francis and Joyce (Buss) McAuliffe. Graduated from Freeport High School, Class of 1976. He then began a successful 39 year career with Ingersoll Cutting Tool Company where he learned the business and traveled the world sharing his technical knowledge and problem solving abilities with various industries.\r\n \r\nHe met the love of his life Dorothee Johann while on a business trip to Waldrich Siegen, Germany. They were married in Rockford, IL on December 8, 1988. They were blessed with a son, Ryan, on July 27, 1992. Ryan brought Brian much joy as he watched him grow and become the fine young man he is today, not to mention an excellent motocross rider!!\r\n\r\nBrian was an avid motocross fan and racer who had a successful amateur career competing and winning at the expert level on tracks around the Midwest. His love of dirt bikes lead him to the desert area of Las Vegas where he and a teammate/friend participated in the Vegas to Reno desert race. His enthusiasm for motorsports also took him to Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin and Road America where he took driving lessons in his BMW M3. He always claimed things got a “little sketchy” once you hit 150 mph!!! \r\n \r\nBrian also enjoyed shooting in the RIAA trap league at Plug and Pellet Sportsman’s Club where he was an AA rated shooter. Brian’s biggest goal in shooting became “to someday beat the Blascoes”! Over the years Brian became an excellent shooter who regularly “beat the Blascoes”!!\r\n \r\nBrian was an active member of St. Mary/St Patrick Catholic Church in Durand. \r\n \r\nSurvivors include his wife Dorothee McAuliffe, Pecatonica, IL; son Ryan McAuliffe, Lombard, IL; mother Joyce McAuliffe, Dubuque, Iowa; sister Brenda (Jim) Charlson, Dubuque, Iowa; nephews Bobby (Kelsey), Joey and Alex Charlson; brother Kevin (Sarah) McAuliffe, Cedarville IL; nephew Riley and niece Carly McAuliffe and brother-in-law Hans-Martin Johann. He was preceded in death by his father, Francis "Peanuts" McAuliffe in 2010 and father-in-law and mother-in-law Heinz and Elfriede Johann.\r\n\r\nFuneral Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 11, 2017 in St. Mary Catholic Church, 606 W. Main Street, Durand, IL. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. A visitation will be held at McCorkle Funeral Home –Durand Chapel, 101 W Main Street, Durand, IL from 8:00 am to 10:00 a.m., Saturday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to OSF Hospice, 5501 E.
