Cathy Geddes

Cathy Jeanette Geddes, 75, of Rockford, IL died on Saturday, June 22, 2024 in Javon Bea Mercy Health Hospital after a brief illness. She was born November 23, 1948 in Spring Valley, IL the daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Mertel) Flaherty. Cathy graduated from LaSalle-Peru High School. She graduated Cum Laude from Illinois Valley Community College where she received her Associate's Degree and went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree from Marycrest College.

Cathy left behind a legacy of kindness and deep belief in the love of Jesus. She enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as a primary school educator in Rockford, IL, touching the lives of thousands of children with her gifts of gentleness and patience. Cathy married Dennis Geddes on July 10, 2004 in Shirland, IL. After Cathy retired from fulltime teaching, she and Dennis lovingly cared for an extensive fruit and vegetable garden. She especially enjoyed sharing the delicious bounty of her efforts with her neighbors and friends.

Survivors include her devoted husband Dennis; sisters Sharon (Fred) Sims, Patricia Langham, Marilyn (Edward) Young; and numerous nieces and nephews. Cathy was predeceased by her parents.

Funeral Ceremony will be held at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at McCorkle Funeral Home - Rockton Chapel, 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd., Rockton, IL with Pastor Dan Herman officiating. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial in Harrison Township Cemetery.
