Chester Lawrence Burton, 81, of Freeport, IL, passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at his home. \r\n\r\nHe was born August 16, 1937 in Little Falls, New York. He married Patricia H. Wold on January 19, 1957 in Bissmer, MI. Chester worked as a trailer mechanic for Freuhauf, was a Union Steward and also served as a volunteer fireman. At age 35 he gave his heart to Jesus and then began a forty-five year ministry, pastoring churches in Wisconsin, Tennessee, North Carolina, Michigan and Illinois. They pioneered the Cornerstone Church in Durand, IL and last ministered at Meadow Ridge and Prairie Ridge in Freeport as the New Covenant Fellowship. \r\n\r\nHe is survived by his wife Pat of sixty-two years; three children Chet (Amy) Burton of Reno, NV, Jeri Dianne (Wayne) Johnson of Osceola, WI and Dan (Tracey) Burton of Lake Summerset, IL; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and brother Bruce (Millie) Burton of Amsterdam, NY. \r\n\r\nA Celebration of Life will be held at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, April 27, 2019 in McCorkle Funeral Home- Durand Chapel, 101 W. Main Street, Durand, IL. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. to time of ceremony on Saturday. Cremation rites have been accorded.
