Clarence Orville Brockway, 89, of Pecatonica, IL died at 6:08 p.m., Monday, July 23, 2018 in Mercy Health after a brief illness.\r\n\r\nBorn January 29, 1929 in Winnebago, IL the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo and Mabel Brockway. Married the former Mary J. Bresnehan in Oconomowoc, WI on June 1, 1949 and enjoyed 69 wonderful years together. Veteran of Post WW II serving in the US Navy. He was a member of St. Mary Church, Pecatonica, IL, American Legion Eugene J. Barloga Post #197, 26 year member of the Pecatonica Fire Protection District, former member of Rotary International and former co-leader of Pecatonica Explore Scout Troop. He worked as a machinist in Oconomowoc, WI before moving to Pecatonica, IL in 1956. Owned and operated the Sugar Bowl Restaurant with his wife Mary until 1960. He then worked for K.C. Soil Service in Pecatonica until 1970. From 1970-1972 he managed the local grain elevator and then he worked for Dean Foods until his retirement in 1996. He loved old cars and antiques and loved to go to swap meets. He had a 1949 Olds since 1969, belonged to the Oldsmobile Club and local Old Car Buff’s Club.\r\n\r\nSurvivors include his wife Mary Brockway, Pecatonica, IL; daughters Sandra “Sandy” (Sy) Gassman and Cynthia “Cindy” (John) Miller; sons Scott Brockway, Craig (Susie) Brockway and Timothy “Tim” (Carrie) Brockway; grandchildren Chad (Michelle), Eric (Kim), Brett (Erika), Mike, Kellie, Sarah (Brent), Des (Amanda), Jake (Jess), Noah and Jake and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and five sisters.\r\n\r\nMemorial ceremonies will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, August 11, 2018 in McCorkle Funeral Home-Countryman Chapel, 529 Washington Street, Pecatonica, IL with Deacon Steve Pulkrabek officiating. Final resting place will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Pecatonica, IL. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until time of ceremonies, Saturday, August 11. Cremation rites will be accorded.
