Clayton C. Winter, 76, of Roscoe died at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 23, 2013 in his home after a sudden illness. Born September 1, 1936 in Rockford, IL to Mr. and Mrs. Fayette and Martha (Eckstrom) Winter. Lifelong resident of the Roscoe and Rockford areas. A graduate of East High School. Married the former Sara Hopkins in Rockton, Illinois on April 15, 1962. Veteran of the Korean Conflict serving the United States Army. Former member of the Rockford Ski Broncs. Clayton was an avid golfer, enjoyed sports, playing cards, and bad jokes. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. \r\r\n\r\r\nHe is survived by his wife, Sara Winter of Roscoe; daughter, Heather (Rick) Leber of Rockton; son, John (Jan) Winter of South Beloit; grandchildren, Shayna, Joshua, Marissa, and Megan; sisters, Connie and Darlene, and the breakfast club at Sophia’s Restaurant in Roscoe. He is predeceased by his parents and special friend, Oliver.\r\r\n\r\r\nMemorial Ceremony will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2013 in Roscoe United Methodist Church, 10816 Main Street, Roscoe, with Rev. Dr. Paul C. Meyers officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 26, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in McCorkle Funeral Home, 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd., Rockton. Cremation rites will be accorded. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Noah’s Ark, 111 N. 1\r\r\n\r\r\nst\r\r\n\r\r\n Street, Rockford, IL 61107.
