Curtis O. Hansen, 87, of Durand, IL died at 7:00 a.m., the morning of his birthday, January 23, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He had been a resident of Medina Manor Nursing Home in Durand for the past four years. After courageously fighting many years of Alzheimer’s disease, his body was ready for rest. Secure in his faith, it gives us peace knowing that Dad is rejoicing in Heaven.\r\n\r\nCurt was born and raised in New Auburn, WI on the family dairy farm. He was the youngest of six children of Fred and Marie Hansen. Curt graduated from New Auburn High School where he was a standout basketball player. He was especially proud of participating in an early Harlem Globe Trotters exhibition game, though his team sorely lost. He met his future bride, Janet Misfeldt of Bloomer, WI at the local root beer stand and they were married February 12, 1949 in Stillwater, MN. After briefly settling in North Dakota, where eldest son Jeff was born, the young family drove south to Rockford, IL. Curt secured employment as a machinist for Sundstrand Aviation and their family continued to grow with the addition of two more sons, Tom and Patrick. Feeling the desire for country living, Curt and Janet moved their family to Durand, IL in the early 60’s. They raised their three active boys and a host of foster children in their home on East Main Street. In 1968, with the boys practically grown, they were surprised to find themselves parents again with the addition of daughter Pam. Curt continued to work at Sundstrand for more than 30 faithful years, retiring in 1985 at age 55. Curt enjoyed many wonderful years of his retirement playing golf, fishing, woodworking, gardening and cheering on his beloved Green Bay Packers. He attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Durand and leaves behind a wonderful legacy of faith, hard work and character to his children and grandchildren. Our family would like to thank all the staff of Medina Nursing Home for their countless hours of loving care and patience. You all are truly angels.\r\n\r\nSurvivors include his wife Janet Hansen, Durand, IL; children Jeff (Sheila) Hansen, Scottsdale, AZ, Tom (Cindy) Hansen, Dakota, IL, Patrick (Michelle) Hansen, Durand, IL and Pam (Doug) Johnson, Davis, IL; 15 adored grandchildren Heather, Jennifer, Jaclyn, Layne, Brett, Tanya, Cara, Ana, Katie, Savannah, Alec, Adam, Bethany, Juliana and Dane; 20 great grandchildren and sister Phyllis Lauletta, Sun City West, AZ.
