Dorothy “Dottie” Jane Shenberger, 86 of Pecatonica, Illinois, who was a four time cancer survivor, died at 9:53 pm, Saturday, December 12, 2015 in her home surrounded by her family from complications of leukemia.\r\r\n\r\r\n She was born May 28, 1929 at home in Freeport, Illinois, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd and Saima (Saario) Wescott. She attended Freeport High School and graduated from Rockford Barber College and obtained her Barber License in 1982 at the age of 53. Married Glen Shenberger in Belleville, Illinois on April 14, 1951. Dottie worked for Micro Switch in Freeport, Illinois for over 20 years and owned and operated Dottie’s Barber Shop in Pecatonica, Illinois. She made dolls for needy children, loved flowers, birds and animals. She and Glen attended and helped with the Meet and Eat in Pecatonica. The family would like to thank the Heartland Hospice for the wonderful care given to Dottie. She loved her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren very much. \r\r\n\r\r\n Survivors include husband Glen; son Kirk (Jan) Shenberger; daughters Paula (Dick) Wieland; Cindy Whetsel; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one sister; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, one brother and son-in-law Frank Whetsel. \r\r\n\r\r\n Private funeral ceremonies will be held. Final resting place will be Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport, Illinois. McCorkle Funeral Home-Pecatonica Chapel, 203 W Fifth Street, Pecatonica, Illinois assisted the family.
