Eugene Harold Slankard, 90 of Rockton, Illinois, died at 11:30 p.m., Wednesday, February 9, 2011 in his own home surrounded by his family. \r\r\n\r\r\n Born May 16, 1920 in Joplin, Missouri, the son of James A. and Hazel (Nimmo) Slankard. Married to the former Martha Rose Corn in Arma, Kansas on June 15, 1946. Harold was employed as a carpenter working from the Waukegan Local. He is a veteran of WW II serving in the U. S. Army in the 274th Armed F.A.BN. Harold was Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus, American Legions Post 0077 in Belvidere, Illinois, VFW Post #1461 and the carpenter's union. \r\r\n\r\r\n Survivors include his wife Martha Rose Slankard, daughter Geri Lynn (Jeffery) Pence all of Rockton, Illinois; son David Slankard of South Beloit, Illinois; grandchildren Christopher and Nicholas Offenwanger, Noah and Zachary Pence, Maggie Slankard; brother Edward Slankard and sister Ruth (Cliff) Black all of Kansas and several nieces and nephews. \r\r\n\r\r\n Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 15, 2011 in Church of the Holy Spirit 5637 Broad Street Roscoe, Illinois with Reverend Msgr. Charles McNamee officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawn Memorial Garden in South Beloit, Illinois. A visitation will be held at McCorkle Funeral Home 767 N Blackhawk Blvd Rockton, Illinois from 5:00pm to 9:00 p.m., Monday, February 14, with a Knights of Columbus service at 7:00 pm.
