Evalyn June Davis Geddes passed away July 26, 2012. Our mom, grandma, wife, and friend is at peace after a 9 year struggle from strokes. \r\r\n\r\r\n June was born on June 21, 1926, the daughter of Lester and Evalyn Cox Davis and grew up in rural Durand, Illinois. She graduated from Durand High School in 1944. She married James Geddes in 1946 and celebrated 65 years of marriage last year. They raised 3 children on a farm in rural Rockton. June worked many years as a Registered Nurse with a BSN degree at various locations but also had a special talent in music. She was a church organist, pianist, preschool and music teacher at Keith Country Day School, and a piano teacher. June was a 60 year member at Rockton United Methodist Church. A special musical memory was her youth band at church called “Granny and the Younguns”. \r\r\n\r\r\n She loved to play the piano with her grandchildren and their friends on musical instruments and entertained many at church services. She brought the youth together to play ole’ time religious songs at the Rockton church for many years. Thanks for the memories. Anyone who knew Mom in the retirement years, would agree that if the sun was shining and the weather was good, she was gone on a horse ride with friends or family. \r\r\n\r\r\n June and Jim especially liked traveling with the truck camper and the horses and traveled to many states for trail rides. June enjoyed Rockton Women’s Club, horse riding clubs, dances at Moose Lodge, youth activities and numerous other groups over the years. But best of all, she loved being a mom and grandma. Grandma June made sure that all of her grandchildren had a pony to ride. \r\r\n\r\r\n Survivors include husband Jim, children Judy Cunningham of Durand, Janet (Alan) Bridgeland, and Jerry (Vicki) Geddes all of Rockton. Grandchildren include Aaron (Mackenzie) Bridgeland, Brett (Kari) Bridgeland, Hannah Bridgeland, Charlie Cunningham, Leigh (fiancé Joanna Doyle) Geddes, Hillary (Andy) Fleming plus 3 great grandchildren and numerous extended family.
