George Doty

George M. Doty, 76, of Pecatonica, IL died Wednesday, November 15, 2023 in his home after a sudden illness. He was born September 29, 1947 in Freeport, IL the son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin W. and Hazel P. (Baebler) Doty. George graduated from Pecatonica High School, Class of 1965. He was active in many activities in school and excelled in sports. George attended Iowa State University in Ames, graduated from Western Illinois University in Macomb in March of 1970 with a Bachelor's Degree in Agronomy. He was drafted into the US Army in June of 1970; having served in Vietnam from December of 1970 to December of 1971. He was honorably discharged in January of 1972.

George married the love of his life, Linda A. McLarty on August 10, 1968 in Court St. Church in Rockford, IL. He was employed by Smith Oil Corp., Cole Chemical, farmed with his father and retired in 2008 from Top Notch Building Supply after 17 years. After retirement, he worked seasonally for Seward Ag. George was confirmed in and was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Pecatonica, IL.

George was a true family man, who enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow up and attending their games and activities. George also enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and playing slow pitch softball in his younger years. George is survived by his wife Linda; mother Hazel; daughter Dawn Lucas; son Brian Doty; grandchildren Tyler and Rachel; brother Dale (Shannon Roberts); sisters Karen (Terry) Brown and Mary Doty; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; his best friend Dan Hoffman. George is predeceased by his Father.

A funeral ceremony to be held on November 25, 2023 at 1:30 pm in First Congregational Church 633 Reed St. Pecatonica, IL with Rev. Bob Wang officiating. Cremation Rites to be Accorded. Final Resting Place to be Twelve Mile Grove. A visitation will be held at the Church from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday.

In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established.
