Helen I. Sumner

Helen Sumner, 94, Pecatonica, Illinois, died Friday, April 22, 2011.

Born June 5, 1916 in Rockford, Illinois, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur and Isbelle (Thompson) Hommema. She was a life-long resident of the Pecatonica area. Married George Sumner in Rockford, Illinois on April 17, 1937. She and George (Bub) farmed at southeran Egan for 27 years. She was a member of First Congregational Church, Pecatonica, Pec Garden Club, Philathea and Home Extension. She graduated Central High School, Class of 1934.

Helen is survived by her son Gene (Ginnie Ann)Sumner, Phoenix, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 5 at the First Congregational Church, 633 Reed, Pecatonica, Illinois with Pastor Duane Hoffman officiating. McCorkle Funeral Home, 203 W Fifth Street, Pecatonica, Illinois assisted the family. Flowers were provided for Helen by the Pecatonica Garden Club. Per Helen’s wishes, she donated her body to science and her final resting place will be Pecatonica Cemetery, Pecatonica, Illinois.
