On January 20, 2025, the Lord called James "Jim" O'Brien to his eternal home. Born on February 28, 1956, in Rockford, IL, Jim was known for his dedicated service, spirited approach to life, and a sense of humor that could brighten even the gloomiest of days. He was a loyal friend, a loving family member, a devoted grandfather and an active member of the Roscoe, Illinois community where he resided.
Jim was a self-employed retail distributor, a role that allowed him to showcase his exceptional dedication and hard work. Despite the demands of his work, he never forgot to enjoy life. Jim was an enthusiastic fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears, and nothing brought him as much joy as a day spent fishing. His love for animals was evident to all who knew him, and his home was often filled with the sound of cheerful pets. A cornerstone of his life was his active involvement in his church, where he served as Head Elder for many years and held many positions on the Church Council. His unwavering faith and willingness to serve were a source of inspiration to many.
In addition to his professional and personal accomplishments, Jim was known for his generous spirit. Throughout his life, he donated several gallons of blood, a testament to his desire to help others. He also volunteered with Mercy Health Hospice, providing comfort and support to those in need. Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Cindy; step-sons, Sean (Meghan) Cramer and Ryan Cramer; grandchildren, Zackary, Abigeal, and Eileanora Cramer; his sister, Vickie (Emil) Cesna; sister, Kathleen (Terry) Raemhild; brother, Charles O'Brien; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
