Jerry Jones, 70, of Janesville, Wisconsin, died at 6:05 a.m., Thursday, October 3, 2013 in his home. \r\r\n\r\r\n Born August 18, 1943 in Glendive, MT the son of William and Mildred Jones. He moved to Harrison, IL when he was six years old. He graduated from Hononegah High School where he excelled in football and wrestling. He received a scholarship to attend the University at Dubuque in Iowa where he earned a bachelor’s degree in social sciences. After graduating he began teaching at Belvidere Junior High. He taught until 1968, when he began his illustrious career in insurance that continued until his death. He trained with the St. Louis Cardinals, and played semi-pro football for the Delevan Red Devils from 1967-1972. Jerry’s real love was power lifting. He began this passion in his 40s. He won numerous state and national titles, set world lifting records and placed third at the 2007 World Championships in Schwedt, Germany. Jerry was a loving father, husband, brother, and uncle. He was very generous to others and gave to charities including Compass Housing Alliance, Echo, and Boy Scouts of America. He was a die-hard Packers fan and a true sports fisherman. He travelled all over the world to fish. He loved life and life loved him. He will be greatly missed by those whose lives he touched. \r\r\n\r\r\n Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Jane Jones; daughter, Tracy Jones (husband Shawn Hargreaves) of Seattle, sister, Jacquie Berg (children Stacey, Audrey and Brad) of Peoria; step children Deborah Rutledge (husband Tim, children Chris, Cari, and Craig) and Brian Arn (wife Alecia, children Kylee and Grayson), and his beloved dog Benji. \r\r\n\r\r\n Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M., Saturday, October 12, 2013 in McCorkle Funeral Home –Rockton Chapel, 767 N Blackhawk Blvd, Rockton, Illinois with Pastor Tom Kingery of Rockton United Methodist Church officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:00 until time of service Saturday.
