Joann Marie Medernach, 91, of Rockton, Illinois, passed away Thursday June 2, 2022 at 7:08 pm in Mercy Hospital Janesville, Wisconsin. She was born on June 11, 1930 in Rockford Illinois, the daughter of Arthur and Frances Clark.\n\nJoann graduated from West High School in Rockford in 1948. She married Richard Medernach in April of 1958. He passed away in December of 1988. \n\nJoann worked as a church secretary and organist for many years, at Grace United Methodist Church in Rockford, Illinois then Rockton United Methodist Church to retirement. She continued filling in as an organist at many area churches and funeral homes well after retirement. \n\nShe enjoyed sewing, knitting and needlework, always had a quilt or sweater she was working on. She loved to travel and went all over the world. She cherished the many friends she made through her church, the New Century Book Club and Red Hats. She loved to swim at the pool in Rockton in the summer, and at the YMCA in Beloit the rest of the year. \n\nSurvivors include her daughters Kathy (Anthony Buth) Geyer, Emily (Kevin) Buchanan and Martha (Tal) Rhead. Grandchildren Brett Buchanan, Emmeran (Micaela Magel) Geyer, and Jennifer Rhead. Sister Karen Mackie, special cousins Robert and Arden Spooner, lifelong friend Phyllis Ryan Anderson, cousins, nieces and nephews. \n\nPreceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard, brother in law Fred Mackie and niece Sheila Mackie-Kramer. \n\nA celebration of Joanns life will be held at a later date. \n\nIn lieu of flowers, memorials in Joann's name may be given to the Rockton United Methodist Church.\n\nCremation rites were accorded.
