Joseph 'Ken' Balla

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Joseph 'Ken' Balla on June 21, 2024, just three months past his 84th birthday. Born on March 20, 1940, in Chicago, IL, Ken was a beloved father, grandfather, and friend. His warm spirit and jovial nature will be greatly missed, but fondly remembered.

Ken was a proud veteran of the US Army, serving for six years, including a memorable stint in Germany. He was honorably discharged with a good conduct medal and carried with him a trove of stories from his adventures driving across Europe. Following his time in the service, Ken embarked on a successful career in the circuit board manufacturing industry, where he worked as a manager until his retirement.

In his personal life, Ken was an avid camper, spending many summers at Lake Summerset with his late wife, Arlene, and their son, Jay. He had a deep love for the lake, often seen out on his boat, soaking up the sun and the serenity. A lover of the early morning, Ken cherished his breakfast outings with his buddies, a tradition that he held close to his heart.

Ken was widowed, predeceased by his wife, Arlene, and his parents, John and Anna Balla. He is survived by his son, Jay, and his daughter-in-law, Laura. He was also a cherished uncle to his nephew, John. The joys of Ken's later years were his grandchildren, Charlotte and Jake, to whom he was a loving and devoted grandfather.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, 30 Jun 2024 at 1:00pmCDT at McCorkle Funeral Home in Durand, Illinois, followed by a scripture ceremony at 5:00pmCDT. The ceremony will also be live-streamed on https://my.gather.app/remember/joseph-balla for those who are unable to attend in person.
