Josephine Gummow Shedd, 88, Rockton, Illinois died at 4:58 a.m., Wednesday, March 27, 2013 in Highview in the Woodlands. \r\r\n\r\r\n Born May 25, 1924 in Rockford, Illinois, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester and Helen (Gleasman) Gummow. Married John G. Shedd in Old Stone Church, Rockton, Illinois on February 12, 1949. She and her husband had farmed in the Rockton area for over 60 years. She was employed as the Director of the Old Stone School by the Wagon Wheel for 17 years, was hostess for the Wagon Wheel, dental assistant and teacher at Keith Country Day school. She was a member of Second Congregational Church, “Duo Decum”, sewing groups , Winnebago County Farm Bureau, was past president of AFS (American Field Service) Hononegah Chapter, Eastern Star and served on the PTO at Pleasant View Grade School where she was also a head cook. Josephine flew an airplane and helped with local 4-H groups. Family was important to her. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and playing piano. Josephine loved to travel internationally and across the United States, traveling in the motor home with her husband John and family. Graduated from Hononegah Community High School, Class of 1942. The family would like to thank the staff at Highview in the Woodlands for their excellent care of mom in the past three years. We would also like to thank Dr. David Hansen, Hospice Care of America and Pastor Dan Herman for all they have done. \r\r\n\r\r\n Survivors include sons, John (Sloane) Shedd, Princeton, New Jersey and Mark (Rose) Shedd, Rockton, Illinois; daughter, Gayle (Dale) Haab, Roscoe, Illinois; son, Gary (Cheryl) Shedd, Rockton, Illinois; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren and sister, Lucille (Russell) Holub, Three Oaks, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Albert. \r\r\n\r\r\n Funeral ceremonies will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 6, 2013 in Old Stone Church, 101 East Union, Rockton, Illinois with Pastor Dan Herman officiating. Burial will be in Rockton Township Cemetery, Rockton, Illinois.
