Joyce E. Painter, 78, Rockton, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 after a long illness. \r\r\n\r\r\n Joyce was born in Corning, Arkansas on May 9, 1935, the daughter of Roscoe and Gladys (Herring) Arnold. She was co-owner of The Miss Rockford Diner and later became a waitress for the Hoffman House Restaurant. Eventually, she returned to school and became a professional hairdresser until she retired to devote her time to her grandchildren. Joyce had many faithful customers; many of whom became close, life-long friends. She married J. B. Painter on June 29, 1952. Joyce had an incredible enthusiasm for life which she instilled in her family and others around her. Family was the most important thing to her as well as dancing, cooking, traveling and gardening. Joyce was a devout Christian whose faith was an inspiration in good times and bad. She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother who will be dearly missed. The family would like to give special thanks to Swedish American Cancer Center and to Northern Illinois Hospice for their compassionate care. \r\r\n\r\r\n Joyce is lovingly survived by her husband, J.B.; daughters, Debra (Kirby) Campanella and Lynda (Daniel) Shipley; beloved sister, June Mullen; grandchildren, Angela Elke, Kaela Shipley, and Connor Shipley; several nieces and nephews; and granddoggies, Olivia and Molly. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Cletus Arnold.\r\r\n\r\r\n Funeral services will held be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 31st, 2013 at McCorkle Funeral Home, 767 N Blackhawk Blvd, Rockton, Illinois with Pastor Lisa Ab, pastor of 1st Congregational Church, Roscoe, Illinois officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery, 6202 Charles Street, Rockford, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral Saturday.
