It is with a heavy heart we announce Lisa Emily Nyman, surrounded by her loving family, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2024, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Known affectionately by many as Mom, Grandma Lissy, Big Mama, Lady, and Aunt Dee Dee, Lisa was born on April 18, 1960, in Spring Valley, Illinois, the fifth daughter of Nellie and Gilbert Nyman.
Lisa was a woman of many passions and joys. She worked various retail jobs through the years and met many wonderful people she became close friends with. As a lover of all things floral, Lisa's garden was her sanctuary, especially her patch of zinnias. She had a fondness for sunflowers and the color purple, a reflection of her vibrant personality. Cardinals held a special place in Lisa's heart. She loved spending time with her grandchildren baking and watching movies. She also loved reading anything about Queen Elizabeth. Lisa loved going on car cruises, whether to visit her Pecatonica and Princeton "goon squads," see "what's goin on" around town, or for random trips with her "ride or die" Nicole. She loved traveling to Arizona with her special sister Becky Guither, and had an impressive rooster collection. Lisa's battle with cancer showcased her resilience and courage. Her strength, even in the face of adversity, was truly inspiring and will forever be remembered.
Lisa's most cherished roles, however, were that of a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister. She is survived by her daughter, Malissa (Skee Hartmann) Irizarry and her son, Jared (Krystal) Waugamon; survived by twelve grandchildren, her pride and joy: Shaylynn, Emily (Saul), Madelynn, Nathaniel, Caleb, Katelynn, Jesse, Rayelynn, Stryder, Charlotte, Isabelle, and Scotlynn; survived by a special friend whom she considered like a daughter, Nicole (Tadd) Heckman; survived by four sisters; Vicki (Dennis) Pobanz, Becky Guither, Heidi (Steve) Hansen, and Darcy (Randy) Staton; half sister Marilyn (Chuck) Pruitt; half brother John (Jan) Nyman, and numerous nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nellie and Gilbert Nyman; her sister, Jill Cattani; and her nephew, Eric Provance.
The family would like to thank the Northern Illinois Hospice team, UW doctors Dr. Schmidt and Dr. Maeza, and the UW nursing staff for their wonderful care through Lisa's four year cancer battle. A special thank you to Rob Brown and Teresa Nolan for helping care for Lisa. A special thank you to Kim Houston for helping drive Lisa to appointments. A special thank you to Kellie Knutti and the Bootie's family for their continued support and care for Lisa and her family.
