Lois Slamp Wilke, 95, of Rockford and formerly of Lake Summerset, Davis, IL passed away peacefully at Morning Star Village Assisted Living on July 27, 2016.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Lois was born on May 14, 1921 in rural Davis, IL to Orris and Cora (Meier) Slamp. She attended Churchill School on Best Road, Davis, IL and graduated from Durand High School in 1939. Lois worked for John and Helen Walsh as a nanny. During WWII, Lois operated a lift truck for JL Clark. Lois was united in marriage to Claire Meinert Wilke on December 15, 1945. She and her husband farmed on Best Road, Davis, IL before moving to Lake Summerset where she resided for nearly 44 years. Lois was a member of the Durand United Methodist Church, the Durand American Legion Auxiliary, the Durand Historical Society, and a lifetime member of the Jolly 31 Club. In addition, Lois delivered “Welcome” packages to new residents at Lake Summerset. She and her husband were avid card players, and members of a 500 card club for many years. Playing cards with family and friends was her favorite pastime. The family would like to extend their deep appreciation and thanks to the staff at Morning Star Village, who provided Lois with excellent care and support during her final days.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Survivors include three sons, Larry (Tess) Wilke, Richard (Carol) Wilke, and Dennis (Carol) Wilke all of Durand, IL; six grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Verla Wilke of Florida and five nieces and four nephews. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Claire, in October 1997, her sister, Alice (Orson) Miller, and brothers: Dwight (Georgia), Nevin (Helen), Kenneth (Berniece), and Harold (Marion) Slamp; sister-in-law, Neva (Wilke) Ladner, and one niece and four nephews.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Funeral ceremonies will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 15, 2016 at the Durand United Methodist Church, 102 E. Main Street, Durand, IL with Pastor Soon Sun officiating. A visitation will be held at McCorkle Funeral Home-Durand Chapel, 101 W Main Street, Durand, IL from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, August 14, 2016. Burial will be in Durand Cemetery, Durand Illinois. \r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Memorials are being established by the family.
