Lynda Lee Kern, age 70, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 16th, 2018 at Swedish American Hospital after losing a long, hard fought battle with cancer. She was comforted and surrounded by her loving family as well as the supportive staff of the Critical Care Unit, until her last breath.\r\n\r\nFrom her birth in Beloit Wisconsin on August 9th 1947, until her death, Lynda had a love for animals, garage sales, coffee, gossip, laughter, and, of course, casinos. But above all, Lynda loved her family the most.\r\n\r\nBorn to Carl and Florence (Hess) Dietz, Lynda was the youngest of three girls. She graduated Beloit Memorial High School and went on to be a Veterinarian Technician, used car salesperson, and a Walgreen's cashier among many other ventures. Lynda found her perfect match in Oscar Kern and they were married on October 10th, 1964. Together they had two children and many laughs, mostly from Lynda's own jokes.\r\n\r\nLeft to honor and preserve Lynda's memory are her husband, Oscar Kern; children, Shelley (Steve) Alwin and Mike (Lisa) Kern, both of South Beloit; two much loved and spoiled granddaughters Ali Rehfeldt (Nic Haab) of Rockford and Brianna (Zac) Juszczak of Beloit; and many nieces and nephews.\r\n\r\nLynda was predeceased by her parents, sisters Margie Johnson and Beverly Zimmerman, and special niece Deborah Zimmerman.\r\n\r\nLynda will be remembered as the compassionate and fun-loving matriarch of her family; her infectious personality will continue to be cherished by all who knew her.\r\n\r\nFuneral Cermony will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 in McCorkle Funeral Home-Rockton Chapel 767 N Blackhwak Blvd Rockton, IL. Burial will be in Floral Lawn Memorial Garden in South Beloit, IL. The visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11:00 am until time of ceremony.\r\n\r\nIn lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Swedish American Foundation-Critical Care Unit (The Heart Hospital) 1401 East State Street Rockford, IL 61104 to honor the special nurses and doctors who took such loving care of Lynda.
