Margaret O. Ross, 101, Lake Summerset, Illinois died at 10:08 a.m., Friday, December 11, 2015 in Medina Nursing Center from complications after an accident.\r\r\n\r\r\nBorn October 17, 1914 in Nashville, Illinois the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver and Olga (Shrumpf) Maxwell. Attended the University of Illinois where she met her husband, Donald W. Ross and they were married in Danville, Illinois on November 16, 1935. \r\r\n\r\r\n Margaret and her husband raised their family of four children in the Chicago suburb of Palos Heights and later in Park Ridge. They built their home at Lake Summerset in 1971 and made it their permanent home after Donald retired in 1978. She was a full-time housewife and homemaker. She was self-educated in the natural world with a great knowledge of trees, flowers, birds and small animals. She was an avid reader and accomplished writer. Margaret was a member of Durand United Methodist Church, Inter Se and Durand Women’s Club along with many other service organizations.\r\r\n\r\r\nSurvivors include sons Gerald Ross, Tom (Florence) Ross and Richard Ross; daughter Carol (Dale) Betts; seven grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Barbara Kean and Virginia Dvorak, brother Harvey and granddaughter Elizabeth Darland.\r\r\n\r\r\nFuneral ceremonies will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday December 18, 2105 in Durand United Methodist Church, 102 East Main Street, Durand, Illinois with Pastor Brian Channel officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be in Durand Township Cemetery. McCorkle Funeral Home-Durand Chapel, 101 Main Street, Durand, Illinois assisted the family. \r\r\n\r\r\nIn lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Durand United Methodist Church 102 East Main Street Durand, IL 61024 in Margaret Ross’ name.
