Marie T. Stachnik (Mik), 80, of Lake Summerset in Davis IL, went home into the loving arms of Jesus at 3:13 A.M., July 22, 2021 at Lincolnshire Place Memory Care Center in Loves Park, IL after a lengthy illness with Alzheimer’s and Breast Cancer.\n\nShe was born May 14, 1942 in Czechoslovakia the daughter of Ladislav and Marie Mik. Marie’s family escaped to Germany from Czechoslovakia when it was being taken over by communist. They were sheltered in old German barracks and taken care of by US soldiers until they were sponsored by a family to be brought over to America. She was about 12 years old when she came to the US. Early on Marie helped her Mother run her restaurant in Cicero, IL. She then became a beautician and did hair for many years. After that she became a Savings Consular at Liberty Federal Bank in Chicago, where she met her current husband, Joseph, until she retired in 1995.\n\nJoe and Marie were married September 28, 1986 in Chicago. They enjoyed many happy years there until they built their dream home on Lake Summerset. Marie loved her home there and often said it was like living on vacation every day. She also loved their vacation home by the Mississippi River for 18 years where many fun memories were made with family and friends.\n\nShe is currently a member of Durand United Methodist church. Her hobbies were quilting, sewing, knitting, Sudoku, playing Mahjong with her friends and of course, making sure everyone knew how to neatly put garbage in a trash can. She was a member of the Lake Summerset Quilting Club and Girl Talk God Talk Ladies Group at her church. Marie was devoted to and loved her family very much, was always thinking of others and was looking for ways to help people whether it be family, friends, someone she just met or sponsoring children in other countries. She had a kind and generous heart.\n\nSurvivors include her husband Joseph Stachnik,; Daughter Janna McLaughlin (Richard), Step-daughter Laura Boak (Scott), Grandchildren Brandon and Nathan Tackett, Brittany Birkenstock, Jennifer Murray, Tiffany and Ashley Boak and Andrew Tapak. Predeceased by her parents; former husband Paul Tapak; Son Paul Tapak Jr.; Brothers, Joseph Killian, Jerry Mik and Jim Mik.\n\n\nA private Celebration of Marie’s Life to be held at a later date.
