Marilyn L Koenig Barnes, 84, died peacefully October 30, 2012 at her residence, Sun Valley Terrace, Beloit, WI. Marilyn was born May 18th, 1928 in Milwaukee WI and raised in Chicago IL; her parents were Earl & Emilie Sedgley. Marilyn married Lawrence F. Koenig on June 4th, 1949, he died in 1972; she married Monte F Barnes on April 2nd, 1976, he died in 1997. \r\r\n\r\r\n Marilyn went to Chicago schools and obtained an Associate’s Degree in Journalism from Rock Valley College, Rockford, IL in 1976. Marilyn worked primarily as a key punch operator & secretary at various business in the area, including Warner Brake, Mork Foundries, Beloit Corp, Fairbanks Morse, Freeman Shoes, Black Hawk Technical College and Mr. John Ward; and as a ‘gofer’ for Koenig Distributors, Inc. of South Beloit. \r\r\n\r\r\n Marilyn enjoyed rubber stamping, collecting string savers, playing the piano and organ, gardening, nursing house plants back to health, singing in church choir, dancing to big band, polka and country western music, bowling, visiting over a cup of coffee, decorating at her former church Prince of Peace; membership in several women and couple’s card clubs. Marilyn’s sunny disposition and sense of adventure gained her a multitude of friends, many lifelong. \r\r\n\r\r\n Marilyn was active in the Literary Council of Northern Illinois, teaching several students how to read in English, including one woman from Poland and two women from Japan. \r\r\n\r\r\n Marilyn was a former member of the Christian Scientist Church, Beloit, WI and Prince of Peace Lutheran, Rockton, IL. She was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church, Beloit, WI. \r\r\n\r\r\n Left to cherish memories: Sons: Richard Koenig, Daniel (Nicki) Koenig, Dennis (Debe) Barnes; Daughter: Pastor Tina Koenig Ray; Grandchildren: Colleen (Gary) Wright; Melanie Houseman, Katie (Todd) Alderman; Troy (Sherri) Koenig, Jaime Steichen, Joshua Koenig, Nathan Maasz ; Joy (Raj) Boddeda, Eric Silver; Chelsea Barnes, Carley (Leo) Brown, Dylan Barnes; William (Cathy) Ray, Nicholas Ray, Sandi Taylor, Aaron Ray & Nikole (Matt) Ferone; Great Grandchildren: Nathan & Kailie Wright; Alexandra & Jacob Reveles, Christian Houseman; Mackenzie & Riley Alderman; Christopher & Aaron Koenig; Logan & Emily Steichen; Priya Bodedda; Leo & Caden Brown; Randy, Andy & Anthony Ray; Dillon Ray; Laura Kacin & Dallas Taylor; Justin & Cameron Ray; Jack Ferone; Great Great Grandchildren: Cheyenne, Aleigha, Makayla, William, Maggie, Marley, Eden, Austin, Amari, Elyse & Justin, Jr; Sister in Law’s : Charlotte Nielsen, DeLores (Ron) Horan, Dorothy Barnes; Former sister-in-law: Jane Koenig; Brother in Law : Robert (Bonnie) Koenig; Daughter in law: Rebecca Koenig; Former Daughter in laws: Lois Kinsella & Sharon Koenig; Good Friends: John, Sandy, Bryant (JoAnne), & Brooke Ward; Many nieces, friends and extended family. Predeceased by: Husbands; Children: Robert Koenig & Monica Barnes; Son-in-law: William Ray. \r\r\n\r\r\n Funeral Ceremonies will be held at 11:00 am Monday November 5, 2012 Atonement Lutheran Church, 901 Harrison Avenue, Beloit, WI, with Pastor Herb Priester presiding. A visitation will be held at McCorkle Funeral Home 767 N Blackhawk Blvd Rockton IL from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Sunday. Burial will be in Pinnacle Hill Cemetery. A memorial will to be established. The family would like to extend their appreciation and thanks to the staffs of Premier Health and Rehabilitation; Sun Valley Terrace and Heartland Hospice for the care and love they showed during Marilyn’s last few years.
