Marvin R. Wegner, 88, Lake Summerset, Illinois, died Monday, November 16, 2009, peacefully at home. \r\r\n\r\r\n Born January 21, 1921 in Oak Park, Illinois, the son of Mr. and Mrs. August and Caroline (Melcher) Christian. Married the former June Ellen Quires in Oak Park, Illinois, she died in 1982. He then married Mary Louise Gayton Greene in Durand, Illinois on September 21, 1985. Marvin was employed as vice-president of engineering by Ferrara Pan Candy Company, retiring in 1991. Veteran of WWII serving in the US Navy in the Philippines for three years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Durand, Illinois. He loved gardening, bird watching and was always creating something. \r\r\n\r\r\n Survivors include wife, Mary Louise Wegner, Lake Summerset, Illinois; son Dr. Curt (Diane) Wegner, Batavia, Illinois; granddaughters Jennifer Lynn, Laura Christin and Kimberley Ann; step children Jareth (Douglas) Berg, Rock City, Illinois and Edmond (Sharon) Greene, Davis, Illinois; step grandchildren, Andrew Berg, Teresa Davies, Jon Greene and Beth Hinchee; four step great grandchildren; sister Loretta Thompson, Platteville, Wisconsin and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife June Ellen, son James, three brothers and four sisters. \r\r\n\r\r\n Funeral ceremonies will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 19, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 15585 Durand Road, Durand, Illinois with the Reverend R. Lee Bennight, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Durand Cemetery, Durand, Illinois. McCorkle Funeral Home, 101 Main Street, Durand, Illinois assisted the family. Visitation will be held at the church from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 18. \r\r\n\r\r\n A memorial will be established.
