Mary Jean Gipe, 78, Pecatonica, Illinois died at 1:25 a.m., Wednesday, June 25, 2014 in Neighbors Nursing Home, Byron, Illinois \r\r\n\r\r\n Born December 25, 1935 in Big Stone City, South Dakota, the daughter of Raymond W. and Irene S. (Fenner) Kalas. Married Walter S. “Red” Gipe in Polo, Illinois on May 15, 1954. She was a member of Pecatonica United Methodist Church and Ladies Legion Auxiliary. Former Winnebago County election judge for over 20 years. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, dancing and cheering for her children and grandchildren at sporting events. Graduated from Polo High School, Class of 1953. \r\r\n\r\r\n Survivors include sons, Don (Kim) Gipe and Tom (Pat) Gipe, both of Pecatonica, Illinois and Tim (Dina) Gipe, Sandwich, Illinois; grandchildren, Jordyn Gipe, Melissa (fiancé Josh Fransen) Gipe, Angela (Cody) Clagg, Andrea Espinoza, Aaron (Amanda) Gipe, Janelle (Brooke) Gipe, Brittany (Steven) Kewatt, Quentin (Erica) Gipe, Nolan, Anna and Andrew Gipe; 16 great grandchildren; one brother, Ron (Luanne) Kalas, San Benito, Texas; sister-in-law, Evelyn Kalas, Dixon, Illinois; brother-in-law, Lyle Summers, Wyanet, Illinois and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Jerry (Gipper), brother Robert Kalas and sister Joan Summers. \r\r\n\r\r\n Funeral ceremonies will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 1, 2014 in Pecatonica United Methodist Church, 528 Washington, Pecatonica, Illinois with Reverend Katie Voigt officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded. Visitation will be held at McCorkle Funeral Home-Countryman Chapel, 529 Washington, Pecatonica, Illinois from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday, June 30.
