Mary Schewe

–

Mason, Ohio

It is with profound sadness that we mark the passing of Mary Elizabeth (Melzer) Schewe, who departed this world on March 20, 2026. Born in Taylorville, IL, on October 29, 1945, Mary was a beacon of love, strength, and wisdom for her family and friends. A recent resident of Mason, Ohio, and formerly long time resident of Roscoe, IL, she was known for her unwavering kindness and her deep commitment to those she loved. Mary, a retired bookkeeper, lived a life of service to her family and community.

Mary was the beloved widow of Michael L. Schewe, to whom she was married on March 16, 1968. Their love story was an inspiration to all who knew them. She is survived by her loving children, Ron (Sarah) Schewe, Rhonda (Joe) Petsch, and Sue Schewe. Mary also leaves behind a cherished sister, Josanna Verardi, a dear brother, Nick (Melanie) Verardi and close brother-in-law, John Gardona. She was a grandmother to Emma, Abigail & Cameron Schewe, Joseph, Robin and Michael Petsch, Matthew Schewe, Jasmine, Toris and Isaiah Richardson and great-grandmother to Hannah and Maddie Petsch, Nevaeh Schewe and Raeya Bravo. Her memory will live on through their lives and the love they share.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Schewe, her parents, Oscar (Reda) Melzer and Mary (Joe) Verardi, her sisters Maria Gardona and Judith (Joe) Hamilton. As we remember Mary, let us hold close the wisdom of Leo Buscaglia, who said, "Death is a challenge. It tells us not to waste time... It tells us to tell each other right now that we love each other." The memory of Mary's life will continue to inspire us all, and her love will live on in the hearts of those she touched.

A Funeral Ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 30, 2026 in McCorkle Funeral Home – Rockton Chapel, 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd., Rockton, Illinois with Pastor Randy Nicholas officiating. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until time of ceremony, Monday. Burial in Roscoe Cemetery in Roscoe, Illinois.

We invite all who knew and loved Mary to share their memories and upload photos to the memorial page, to honor and celebrate a life so beautifully lived.
