Matthew Carey

–

Durand, Illinois

Matthew Patrick Carey, age 33, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on July 14, 2025. Born on September 9, 1991, Matthew was known for his joyful and adventurous spirit, coupled with a tough and fearless nature that made him a beloved figure in his community and beyond.

A proud graduate of Boylan Catholic High School in 2010, Matthew dedicated his life to serving his country with distinction. He joined the United States Air Force in 2013, completing basic training at Lackland AFB and further training at Eglin AFB. He served as a Crew Chief on C-130s at Cannon AFB and Little Rock AFB, later transitioning to F35s at Hill AFB. His sense of duty led him to become an OSI Special Agent, with assignments at Hill and eventually back at Lackland. Throughout his military career, Matthew completed deployments to Afghanistan and Africa, along with numerous TDY missions. His service was a reflection of his deep patriotism and unwavering commitment to protecting others.

Matthew’s dedication to helping those around him extended far beyond his military service. He was a certified paramedic, first responder, certified personal trainer, and volunteer firefighter—roles that perfectly captured his strong, protective spirit and his constant desire to serve his community.

But above all, Matthew was devoted to his family. He married his high school sweetheart, Samantha, in 2012, and together they built a loving home for their son, Brantley. He was a devoted husband, a proud and present father, and a caring son to his mother, Patricia Carey. Matthew was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Carey, whose memory he carried with him throughout his life.

Matthew treasured time spent with his loved ones. Whether exploring the zoo and amusement parks with his family, hiking, fishing, lifting weights, participating in Spartan races, he embraced life fully and with joy. His adventurous spirit was matched only by his deep love for those closest to him.

Matthew Carey will be remembered as a hero, a loving husband, a protective father, and a loyal friend. His life was a beacon of courage, generosity, and devotion—to his family, his friends, and his country. His legacy of love and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
