Myrta Jeanne Smith, 93, of Durand, IL died at 12:50 p.m., Thursday, April 12, 2018 in Medina Nursing Center with family at her side.\r\n\r\nBorn September 29, 1924 in Beloit, WI, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. and Gertrude B. (Hamilton) Miller. She graduated from Durand High School, Class of 1942. She married Maurice T. Bentley in Durand, IL on September 18, 1943. He died on December 31, 1954. She then married George Smith in Durand, IL on August 20, 1960. He died October 14, 1998. She was the first secretary at Medina Nursing Center when it opened in 1964. She then went to Highview Retirement Home in Rockford as the administrator for many years. She also worked as an ombudsman in Freeport, IL serving the local nursing homes. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and St. Anne’s CCW in Durand, IL. She was an avid card player of bridge and 500 and enjoyed dancing.\r\n\r\nSurvivors include her daughter Kay (Jim) Stark, Pecatonica, IL; son Jim (Pam) Bentley, Cold Water, MI;\r\ndaughter Debbie Bardell, Durand, IL; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild in the hopper and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Rosalie Crull and son-in-law Glenn Bardell.\r\n\r\nFuneral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 20, 2018 in St. Mary Catholic Church, 602 W Main Street, Durand, IL. Visitation will be held at McCorkle Funeral Home-Durand Chapel, 101 W Main Street, Durand, IL from 9:00 -10:00 a.m., Friday prior to the funeral mass. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Durand, IL.
