Norma Lee Judy, 57, Roscoe, IL, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, April 15, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 31, 1957 in Ft. Madison, IA, the daughter of James and Mildred (Brakeville) Senf Cooper. She married David R. Judy on June 9, 1979 in Ft. Madison, IA. She attended Ft. Madison High School and resided in Ft. Madison, IA until moving to Roscoe, IL in 1990.
In her young childhood, Norma was stricken by polio and was lovingly “adopted” by the local Shriners Chapter as their special little girl, generously helping her and her family during the trials and tribulations of her recovery. The challenges she endured early in her life strengthened her personal fortitude and put into motion her caring and compassion for others in need. When others may have ignored those who had special needs, she was always there to help them and respect them.
After moving to the Roscoe/Rockton area, she was employed at Sophia’s and Ray’s restaurants and the Rockton Inn in Rockton, IL where she became a friend to all, serving with a big heart and a pinch of orneriness for good measure. She enjoyed being an integral part of the upbringing and loving of her three granddaughters. She was also a “second mother” to many of her children’s friends, as her heart and home were open to all. Norma will be remembered for how she could light up any room with her wit and humor. She was a selfless person who always put others first. Her love and compassion for others will be missed by all who loved her and those who knew her.
She is survived by her loving husband, David; son, Douglas Judy of Roscoe; daughter, Darcy Judy (fiancé Joe Rallo) of Roscoe; grandchildren Alexys Shumaker, Hailey Judy, and Morgan Judy; sister; DeAnne (Senf) Davolt of Ft. Madison, IA; brothers, Danny Senf of Blanchardville, WI, Chellis Senf of Dallas City, IL and Jim Cooper of West Palm Beach, FL; eight nieces and five nephews and many friends who were like family to her. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Timmy Dean Cooper.
Memorial Ceremonies will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, April 26, 2014 in McCorkle Funeral Home – Rockton Chapel, 767 N Blackhawk Blvd, Rockton, Illinois with Pastor Dan Herman of Old Stone Church, Rockton, Illinois officiating.
