Rita Metcalf

Rita Elaine Metcalf, 64, of Winnebago, unexpectedly went to be with the Lord Sunday May 22, 2022.

Rita was born on January 3, 1958 to James and Colleen Murphy (Armour). After spending her childhood on the family’s farm, she married the love of her life Gerald (Brad) Metcalf on November 27, 1982 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pecatonica. She returned to the farm and raised her family with Brad, her loving husband of nearly 40 years. Anywhere Rita was, Brad was right by her side. They were best friends from the day they met, and were truly meant for each other.

Rita enjoyed traveling with family, but always kept herself busy at home by taking care of family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and anyone in need. Her favorite activities included sports and anything the family was involved in. But above all, she got the most joy from her grandchildren, who she was able to celebrate with the night before her passing.

Rita is survived by her husband Brad, sons Brian (Lindsay) Metcalf, Chris (Daniela) Metcalf, sister Teresa (Kenny) Day, brother Robert Murphy, grandchildren Chloe, Violet, Isabella and baby Christopher, expected in July, sisters-in-law Marion Metcalf and Sandy (Keith) Wittenauer, as well as multiple nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Rita is predeceased by parents James and Colleen Murphy, in-laws Neil and Helen Metcalf, grandparents, and brother-in-law Greg Metcalf.

A Funeral Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 28, 2022 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 126 W 5th St., Pecatonica, IL with Rev. Dennis Morrissy officiating. Burial to be in St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery, Seward, IL. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McCorkle Funeral Home - Pecatonica Chapel, 203 W. Fifth Street, Pecatonica, IL, Friday.
