Russell L. Ellis, 82, Davis, Illinois, died at 3:00 p.m., Monday, September 29, 2014 peacefully in his home. \r\r\n\r\r\n Born September 12, 1932 in Beloit, Wisconsin, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford and Hattie (Smith) Ellis. Married the former Carol P. Williams in Rockton, Illinois on March 1, 1958. He was employed as a pilot by American Airlines, retiring in 1992. Veteran of the US Air Force during peace time, 1954-1957. He also served part-time in the National Guard. Member of St. Paul Church, where he sang in the choir, former member of the Roscoe Lions Club, Roscoe Volunteer Fire Dept and Silver Strips Association. \r\r\n\r\r\nHe loved to fly, whether it was big or small airplanes. He also loved to sing and in his younger years was in a barbershop quartet and then in church choirs. He loved his family and enjoyed helping them as much as possible. \r\r\n\r\r\n Graduated from Hononegah High School, Class of 1950 and Bradly University in Peoria. \r\r\n\r\r\n Survivors include his wife, Carol Ellis, Davis, Illinois; son, Jeff (Cindy) Ellis, Sycamore, Illinois; daughter, Vicki (Kevin) Engelking, Rock City, Illinois; son, Tim Ellis, Montevideo, Minnesota; grandchildren; Justin Engelking, Jared (Corey) Engelking, Jessica (Dan) Kassen, Jenna Engelking, Ian and Megan Ellis; step grandchildren; Lauren and Leesa Potthoff and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Warren and VicEllis and sister Arlene Beck. \r\r\n\r\r\n Funeral ceremonies will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 4, 2014 in St. Paul Church of Epleyanna, 8800 E Epleyanna Road, Davis, Illinois with Reverend Scott Naevestad officiating. Burial will be in the Davis Cemetery, Davis, Illinois. McCorkle Funeral Home-Durand Chapel, 101 Main Street, Durand, Illinois assisted the family. Visitation will be held at the church from 5:00 -8:00 p.m., Friday, October 3, 2014. \r\r\n\r\r\n A memorial will be established.
