How did Dan know Russell?

"Russ and I were classmates in high school, and college. We were pals in our school days, played in school bands, dance bands, bugle corps, and even joined the Army together on the buddy plan. In recent years we were rekindling those early relationships at reunions and a few motorcycle rides in rural Wisconsin. "

What is something interesting about Russell that others might not know?

"He loved motorcycles, but I think everyone knew that. Oh, and he was very fond of engineer boots with metal cleats on the heels. On one of our rides he told me of how he ended up in the office of a very angry scool principals because of those boots and their noisy foot prints. He did sound real sorry about it though. "
