Sara E. Harris, 94, of Belvidere, IL died at 4:40 a.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Park Place of Belvidere. \r\n\r\nShe was born on the family farm near Durand, IL on February 14, 1923 to Artemus and Irene (Baker) Fritz. She graduated in 1940 from Durand High School and also graduated from Northern Illinois University. During WWII she worked at Gunnite Foundry. After the war she taught in a one room school in Butternut, WI and later a one room school near Durand. She also taught kindergarten in Durand and Franklin and Haskell Grade Schools in Rockford. She loved children, animals and reading. She was a volunteer for Laubach Literacy. She was a 76 year member of the Durand Chapter of the Eastern Star and her family thanks the chapter for their visits and other kindnesses. Her family would like to express their sincerest thanks to Margaret Ryan, Administrator and her staff at Park Place for their loving and professional care given to our mom. We also thank the staff of Northern Illinois Hospice especially nurses Jennifer and Barb. Also, we express our thanks to Pastor John McIntosh and his wife, Lori, of Winneshiek Evangelical Free Church for their visits and steadfast prayers. \r\n\r\nShe is survived by her children, Kathy (Dale ) Strattman, Wichita, KS, Marjorie (Dr. Sheldon) Nicol, Shorewood,IL and Michael (Marilyn) Harris, South Beloit,IL; her grandson Andrew ( Genevieve) Strattman and great-grandchildren Simone and Remington Strattman all of West Jordan, UT. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Walter, her former husband Everett Harris and her sons-in-law, Kenneth Shook and Edward Potteiger. \r\n\r\nA private family service will be held at a later date at Durand Township Cemetery with Pastor McIntosh officiating. Cremation rites were accorded.
