South Beloit, Illinois
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved father, Scott Gregory Fier, born on November 4, 1959, in Aurora, Illinois, who left us on January 17, 2026. A longtime resident of Rockton and South Beloit, Illinois, Scott was an embodiment of resilience—a testament to the enduring strength of the human spirit. He was a cherished son, a devoted father, a beloved brother, and a true friend to many. Scott was a smart and loving man whose funny, witty humor could light up any room.
Scott was a dedicated and hardworking man who took pride in his career as a technician at Woodward (Governor), where he worked until 2011. He was a graduate of Hononegah High School and Woodward Academy, both in 1977. His greatest joys were his family, his three golden retrievers—Dixie, Casper, and Wrigley—and time spent with family and friends.
Presque Isle, Wisconsin, is where he enjoyed the outdoors with his family, brothers-in-law and close friends. He loved fishing on Mermaid Lake and Crab Lake in Presque Isle and boating and fishing with the kids on Lake Waubesa in Madison. Summers were often spent visiting his parents in Branson, Missouri, where he enjoyed boating on Table Rock Lake and taking the kids to Silver Dollar City. Scott loved golf and enjoyed sharing that passion with friends and family, especially his children, Matthew and Brandi.
A lifelong sports fan, Scott was an avid supporter of the PGA Tour, Chicago Cubs, Bears, Bulls, and the University of Illinois Fighting Illini. Above all, he was the biggest fan of any team his children played on throughout the years, including the Rockford Heat, Hononegah Indians, Illinois Central Cougars, and the UNCG Spartans—teams he proudly wore and spoke about often. Despite ongoing health challenges throughout his life, Scott never lost his strength or his spirit. He was most often found in the front row at his daughter Brandi’s sporting events, cheering her on with pride and continued to find joy in the game of golf by driving the golf cart and putting every hole alongside his father and brother, Mark.
Scott’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Loves Park, Illinois, and participated in men’s fellowship groups and retreats, drawing strength and comfort from his faith. As Psalm 46:1–2 reminds us: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea." Scott lived these words fully, demonstrating remarkable resilience throughout his life, especially in the face of his health challenges.
Scott leaves behind those who loved him most: his mother, Betty Fier; his children, Brandi (Jordan) Fier Merritt and Matthew (Andrea Ramirez) Fier; and his siblings, Mark (Laurie) Fier, Cindy (Henry) Davis, and Fawn (Mike) Martin. He was a proud uncle who deeply cherished his nieces and nephews: Carly (Bob) Vaccarello and their son Jack; Lindsay (Keith) Thibodeau and their son Leo; Aidan Fier; Bronson Davis and his son Jackson; Bryce (Krystal) Davis and their daughters Amaya, Gabby, Hannah, and Emma; Lajeana (Matt) Johnson and their children Dylan, Elaina, and Lucas; Chelsea Martin and her son Niall; and Darcy (Matt) Felland and their daughters Esmay and Nataley. Scott was welcomed into heaven by his father, Gregory Fier, who preceded him in death.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the numerous friends who walked alongside Scott and helped through the years. Thank you to the staff at Beloit Memorial Hospital, UW Health University Hospital, and Swedish American Hospital; to Van Mater Rehabilitation Institute and Fair Oaks Rehabilitation and Care Center; to Scott’s former caregiver Una; and to his mother-in-law Alice (Don) Anderson and the entire Anderson family. Your care, kindness, and love never went unnoticed and will always be remembered.
On January 17, Scott walked into heaven—standing tall on his own two feet—surrounded by peace and embraced by God, while John Denver sang “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” While our hearts ache in his absence, we find comfort knowing he is whole, free, and finally at peace.
A public visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Grace Loves Park, 343 Grand Avenue, Loves Park, Illinois. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m., with a light meal to follow. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and to honor Scott’s life through shared stories.
