Shirley A. Johnson, 88, of Durand, IL died at 11:55 p.m., Saturday, December 30, 2017 in St. Anne Center after a brief illness.\r\n\r\nBorn December 21, 1929 in Bolton, IL the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph and Thelma (Miller) George. Graduated from Durand High School, Class of 1947. She married Richard A. Johnson in Durand, IL on October 23, 1948. She was employed as a rural mail carrier for the US Postal Service in Durand, IL for over 20 years. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and St. Anne’s CCW in Durand, IL. She enjoyed bowling at Lakeside Lanes, gardening and traveling with Richard.\r\n\r\nSurvivors include son Dennis (Daniela) Johnson; daughters Barbara (Bruce) Mer and Mary (Robert) Keller; son Bill (Laura) Johnson; daughters Kathy (Steve) Judd and Susan (Dan) Hedlund; grandchildren Mark (Nikki) McCartney, Amy (Robert) Schimmel, Andy (Selena) McCartney, Jared (Sherease Surratt) Keller, Kiel (Mon) Keller, Alison Keller, Clayton Keller, Sarina Phillips, Jeremy (Mayumi) Phillips, Ryan Judd, Erin (Mark) Price, Heather (Mark) Fulara, Tyler (fiancé Jocelyn Sullivan) Hedlund and Evan Hedlund; 17 great grandchildren; sisters Carolyn Smith and Judy Parsons; brother Dick (Sue Mote) George; sister Gail George and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Tom, sister Dorothy Bennis, brother Kenneth George and sister Evelyn Madigan.\r\n\r\nFuneral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 6, 2018 in St. Mary Catholic Church, 606 West Main Street, Durand, IL with Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Tierney officiating with prayers to be recited at McCorkle Funeral Home-Durand Chapel, 101 W. Main Street, Durand, IL at 10:00 a.m. prior to going to church on Saturday. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 5, 2018 with a rosary to be recited at 7:45 p.m. Final resting place will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Durand, IL.\r\n\r\nA memorial will be established.
