Shirley M. Pfaff, 79, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2009 at 6:45 a.m. in her home in Rockton, Illinois from the complications of a rare lung disease. \r\r\n\r\r\n Shirley was born May 9, 1929 in Beloit, WI to Dewey and Freda (Hendricks) Nichols. She graduated from Beloit High School, Class of 1947. Shirley married Donald L. Pfaff on February 4, 1949 in the Old Stone Church in Rockton and lived at the same address in Rockton for over 60 years. The Pfaffs owned Rockton Liquor Store from 1961 to 1976, as well as the Hook, Line and Sinker Bait Shop next door. Don and Shirley enjoyed 50 years of marriage prior to his death in 1999. She gave of her time and talents to several groups and was a member of the Rockton Women’s Club for many years, as well as a Charter Member of the Foxy Red Hat Ladies Club. Covering a span of over 50 years, she formed many close friendships and enjoyed numerous meals and card games with the gals in her Ladies Card Club. From the time of her marriage in 1949, she was a member of the Old Stone Church in Rockton. For over 50 plus years she served on many committees: assisting with cooking, serving, sewing, and any other task requested of her. Shirley was proud of the terms “50 plus years” regarding many facets of her life. Her first and foremost thoughts in her life, however, was as wife, mother, and grandmother to her family. She was always available to listen and advise her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and kept in constant and close touch with all of them. \r\r\n\r\r\n Shirley is survived by her daughter; Susan (Eugene) Rafferty, Madison, WI and their daughter Gina (Al Adkins) of Marshall, WI; her son, John (Amy Shackelton) Pfaff and his children, Craig (Tara Burton) and his daughter, Lilly of Roscoe, IL; Sara and her son, Daniel; daughter, Katelyn, and son, Matthew, all of Rockton. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Kathryn Pfaff and her daughter, Katrina (Joseph) De La Torre, and their children, Ariel and MaKenzie, of San Diego, CA; and son, Christopher of Tempe, AZ. Shirley is further survived by her daughter-in-law, Debbie Pfaff, and sister-in-law, Judith Nichols; sister-in-law, Shirley (Bob) Eddy; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Don; son, Michael Pfaff in 1992; her parents; three brothers, Lavern, Elden, and William Nichols. \r\r\n\r\r\n Funeral ceremonies will be on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at 1:00 in the Old Stone United Church of Christ, 101 East Union, Rockton, IL with the Reverend Dan Herman officiating, burial following at Rockton Township Cemetery.
