Stanton R. Phelps, 81, of Rockton died at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2013 in his home. Born January 12, 1932 in Rockford to Mr. and Mrs. Everett and Lillian (Austin) Phelps. Lifelong resident of Rockton. Self employed 4\r\r\n\r\r\nth\r\r\n\r\r\n generation farmer of the original Phelps homestead, and past DeKalb Seed corn dealer. Member Winnebago County Farm Bureau, Illinois Beef Association and past board member, Winnebago Service Company and past board member, past board member of Shirland Grade School, past trustee of Rockton Fire Protection District. Active 4H member, leader, and volunteer. Enjoyed watching sports and was an avid bowler. Graduate of Hononegah High School, and attended University of Illinois. \r\r\n\r\r\nSurvivors include son, Robert (Amy) Phelps of Rockton; daughter, Judie Heinschel of Rockton; grandchildren, Daniel Phelps, Sarah (Sam) Freedman, and Teke Heinschel; great grandchild, Jude Freedman; and sister, Marilyn Yen. Preceded by brother, Lowell Phelps. \r\r\n\r\r\nFuneral ceremonies at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 1, 2013 in McCorkle Funeral Home – Rockton Chapel, 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd, Rockton, with Pastor Rod Johnson officiating. Burial in Rockton Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Monday. Memorial to the family to be used in Stanton’s name at a later date.
