\nStephen M. Walker was born in March 1942 in Framingham, MA the fourth of five children to Rowe and Barbara Walker. He was raised in Holliston, MA and quickly became a life-long die-hard Boston sports fan. Steve attended college at Northeastern University and later sold insurance in Boston for Liberty Mutual. He moved to the Rockford area for a short time in the late 1960's before quickly returning to his beloved East coast. In his first marriage he had two children and was pulled into a family restaurant business on Cape Cod. He lived for a time in a small home with his family in Humarock, MA some 250 yards from the Atlantic Ocean. \n\nAs life transpired, Steve was surprisingly pulled back to the Rockford, IL area in 1978 where he met and married Susan Smith-Pawlus and joined the family team at Village Green Nurseries where he worked for over twenty-five years. He and Sue were blessed with their daughter Kristin Walker in 1979 as he also became stepfather to Dan, Cathy, and John Pawlus. At the end of his career, he also served as a real estate agent selling homes in the area for Best Realty. Steve lived in the Rockford area for over 45 years including Pecatonica, Lake Summerset - Davis, and finally Westlake Village in Winnebago, but never lost his love and connection to Cape Cod and his Northeastern worldview.\n\nSteve was an avid reader of the Rockford Register Star each day as well as several magazines and books. He was captivated by all sports and a tireless viewer of ESPN and sporting events every night of the week. He bowled and loved to golf in the area with his wife Sue and enjoyed regular travel over the years back to the Cape, to Mexico and the warmer climate of southern Texas for winters. Steve possessed a wonderful quick wit and sense of humor, appreciated good food and great cocktails and was stalwart in his support of family and friends in so many unspoken ways. He knew how to enjoy life and shared that desire willingly with all his loved ones.\n\nSteve is survived by his wife of 44 years, Susan Walker, his daughter Kristin Konchalski (and Terry Konchalski), stepsons Daniel Pawlus and John Pawlus, stepdaughter Cathy Akerman, son Andrew and daughter Stephanie. He loved and appreciated his six grandchildren Mia and Delaney Konchalski, Luke, Sofia and Alayna Pawlus and Radison Akerman. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Rowe and Barbara Walker, brothers Robert, Don, and Dan Walker. He is survived by his sister Ann Swadley of Ave Maria, FL.\n\nA memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 21, 2023 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 126 W. 5th Street, Pecatonica, IL with Rev.
