Pecatonica, Illinois
Steven W. Baker, 69, Pecatonica, IL died at 12:15 p.m., Wednesday, October 31, 2018 in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born August 10, 1949 in Rockford, IL the son of Mr. and Mrs. William and Gladys (Dougherty) Baker. Attended Auburn High School and Rock Valley College. Married the former Barbara J. Redington in Rockford, IL on May 30, 1970. He was employed for most of his career as an ID/OD Surface grinder before becoming an owner/operator of Baker's Place along with his wife Barb. It wasn't long until he would become the life of the party, King of karaoke and if you were lucky enough he would share a story or two with you...or at least a joke! Either way you were leaving with a smile on your face and had made a lifelong friend in Steve! Veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the US Army.
Steven Baker enjoyed fishing, bowling, Euchre, the Bears, the Cubs and of course, spending time with his family and friends. He solved the daily cryptoquotes religiously and never looked up the answers! He always lived his life with love, good intentions, honesty, and integrity.
What really brought out that contagious smile was watching his children, grand children and great grand children succeed in whatever they were choosing to do! He always loved having a dog in his life and Jersey was no exception!
We would like to give special thanks to the oncology staff at VA in Madison as well as the staff at FHN Hospice, especially "our girl" Haley for taking care of "our guy" as well as Chaplain Sean Huguenin for everything he has done.
Survivors include his wife Barbara Baker; daughter Shelly (Doug) Seaton; son Steven Baker.; grandchildren Brittni (Wayne) Seaton, Kyle Lepak, Maverick Seaton and Bo Seaton; two great grandchildren Seven Rasner and Paisley Rasner; sisters Sandra Scott, Deborah (Bill) Bradley, Tammy (Andy) Rodriguez and Penny (Vernon) Wilder; brother Todd Baker and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Scott Baker.
Visitation will begin at 11am Sunday, November 4, 2018 in McCorkle Funeral Home-Pecatonica Chapel, 203 W Fifth Street, Pecatonica, IL with Chaplin Sean Huguenin, of FHN Hospice officiating.
