Ted Simpson, 72, from Shirland/Rockton, IL passed away on August 25, 2026.
He leaves behind his wife, Becky; children, Sara, Nicole (Erik), Ryan (Kristen), Anne and Oliver (Elizabeth); grandchildren, Madison, Evelyn, Anna, Benjamin, Alaina and Gracelynn; great-grandson, Clay; brother, Steve; sister-in-law, Geralyn; sister-in-law, Sandy (Doug); nieces, Jeni, Jamie (Derek) and Alanna; nephews, Jordan, Jonathan (Carrie) and Levi along with his dogs, Bella, Tillie and Peanut.
Ted's circle of life is complete and now he has gone home to his dad, Lawrence, mom, Eunice, and brothers, Dick and Bob.
Ted spent most of his life playing outside. He loved to plant trees (over 300 last count). He always had a garden, loved playing tricks on the grandchildren and always managed to dance at every opportunity. He is still waiting for the Chicago Bears to win the Super Bowl again.
During Ted's retirement, he spent winter months in his recliner with his beloved dogs, Bella, Tillie and Peanut. They were always keeping each other in line. Ted loved going to Stonewall Cafe to see George and Deann and listening to the people from the Table of Knowledge. People who would share their life stories. Ted would say that his biggest accomplishment in life would be sobriety. It took him several times to get there, but on September 27, 2026, he would have been sober for 32 years.
When things were difficult, Ted would say "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference." Living one day at a time; enjoying one moment at a time.
We would like to thank the Oncology Department at UW Madison and Northern Illinois Hospice, especially RN, Nick. Their kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.
Private services were held for immediate family as Ted was a private person and did not wish for any fanfare.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Northern Illinois Hospice, 4751 Harrison Ave, Rockford, IL 61108, UW Health Carbone Cancer Center, 600 Highland Ave, Madison, WI 53792 or plant a tree in honor of Ted.
Ted is now home with brothers, Dick and Bob and parents, Lawrence and Eunice. He is sitting out on his deck watching and waiting for us to join him. Rest in peace my friend, rest in peace. Go Bears!
