William A. Wines, age 72, of Shirland, died peacefully September 15, 2023 at Beloit Memorial Hospital. He was born in Beloit on October 14, 1950 the son of Kenneth and June Wines. Bill was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in Vietnam from January 1969 until 1970, then in Ft. Carson, Colorado in 1970 for five months, Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas in 1970 for five months and finally in Germany in 1971 for 8 months. He entered in Vietnam as a utility worker and then changed to a firefighter when the need arose. Bill was with the Fire Department for 50 years and worked at Pfauter-Maag Cutting Tools which was also known as Barbara Coleman Company and then worked at Gleason Cutting Tools for 36 years from October of 1968 until his retirement in 2005. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, coaching baseball, playing softball, camping, bowling, and spending time with his Grandkids and Great Grandkids.\n\nBill is loved and will be missed by his wife, Debi; sons, Bill Wines of Shirland, Jimmy (Mandy) Wines of Loves Park; daughters, Teri Wines and Carrie Hill both of Rockton; sister, Helen (Larry) Radant of Roscoe; brother, Kevin (Dawn) Wines of Wisconsin. He is also survived by his twelve grandkids; Mel, Jesse, Travis, Aaron, Robert, Gregory Jr., Jacob, Kirra, Trenton, Alyah, Alyssa and Kaelyn; lifelong friends, Kary Krebs and Bill Faulkner; two Great grandkids, Melodi and Karli. He was preceded in death by his parents, June and Kenneth Wines; brothers, Kenny Wines and Tate Spangler; sisters, Diane Johnson, Mary Lou Harris and Robin Gesell; granddaughter, Arianna Jones and niece, Carmen Gesell.\n\nThe family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at McCorkle Funeral Home - Rockton Chapel, 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd., Rockton, IL from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and then again on Friday, September 22, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until time of the Funeral Ceremony at 11:00 a.m. Burial with full military honors will follow immediately at Shirland Township Cemetery.
